The Business
Groovy is a designer, producer and wholesaler of accessories, giftware and homeware products, based in Leicestershire. Founded in 1991, their design team manages exclusive UK and European licenses to design, develop and distribute products for big name brands such as such as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel and Doctor Who. Their products can be seen in a variety of stores from small independent shops and boutiques to high street department stores, and they quickly realised their requirement to hire a sales director.
The Challenge
Groovy had been growing very quickly and as a result had reached a point where the CEO could no longer also fulfil the roles of both Creative Director and Sales Director. ORESA were commissioned to run a long-range search for a Sales Director to join the business, with a view to appointing within 12 months.
The Solution
ORESA ran a search focused on licenced goods companies within the UK, with a particular focus on Sales Directors that would have the required depth and breadth of experience across similar accounts. The search resulted in the successful placement of a Sales Director with a solid track record of scaling businesses and a strong black book of contacts in relevant retailers. The candidate exceeded the brief by additionally bringing a depth of board and strategic experience, alongside a history of preparing for and selling companies, all adding value to the hire for the client.
